The Vines have joined forces with bands Franz Ferdinand, The Magic Numbers and The Subways to help animal rights organization, PETA, in their 'Have A Heart for Animals' Valentines campaign.
The Vines signed and designed a special animal Valentine's Day card (see below). I'm betting the lion was drawn by Craig as you can see this lion's mane covers one eye.
The card will be up for auction soon but the NME made the announcement a bit too early and left out information on how to bid. As an apology PETA will make the card into an e-card for all fans to send and enjoy.
Handmade Valentine Cards From Your Favorite Musicians
Vines e-cards will be up soon.

Angela Modzelewski of PETA said "Thanks so much for helping us promote this. It’s going to go out to our 385,000 e-news subscribers on Tuesday, and we’re going to get our 130,000 street team members to help us post it on livejournal and fan sites."
So if you'd like to help out PETA spread the good word, post this announcement on the sites you visit.
We'll get the link to the e-card when it goes live tomorrow. It might be in the late afternoon or early evening.
Thanks all! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/dreamintheinsane

My favourite part of that is the eyelashes and bow on the camel. And, of course, the lion's hairstyle. _________________ omg. RED TEXT Y'ALL! |

This just in...if you send the e-card to an aol address, this is how it looks
I alerted PETA yesterday and was told, "I just called our IT department about the problem. They said that they’re aware of the problem, and that it’s system wide. All of PETA’s e-cards are appearing that way to the recipients for some reason. They hope to have the problem fixed on Monday. So sorry!!!!"
I sent the card and it appears it may just be an AOL thing as not all recipients got half an image. So hopefully this will be resolved before V day.
Also the auction will be postponed until after Valentine's day but we'll be alerted prior to it going up for bid. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/dreamintheinsane

surely its fine to eat meat and be against cruelty to animals. Just because you eat beef doesn't mean you want the monkeys to die. Conversely; I don't think just because you are against cruelty to animals doesn't mean you should be a veggie. _________________ welcome to vision valley- we hope you enjoy your stay.

Yeah, certain factions of PETA break into laboratories and destroy research, and they are violent. Plus they have a lot of misinformation campaigns out about human physiology and vegetarianism that I think is just silly.
While I support the parts about being against animal cruelty, I can't really support PETA because they take it too far. Raz and I were discussing this the other day and I said it would be like supporting the IRA back in the 80's because they did some good stuff too, and they only blew things up occassionally. _________________ We have reached the inexplicable.

Exactly. And i bet the Vines don't even know everything about the orginazation. I bet it wasnt even their idea to do the card. I bet they were told to do it, cause it's publicity for them, and they need that now. _________________ Check out my artwork:

I'm sure not every member of the IRA supported bombing England either. Still, I wouldn't have given them money for the same reasons I wouldn't give PETA money.
And this is a statement from PETA's website regarding vegetarianism:
"The Natural Human Diet
According to biologists and anthropologists who study our anatomy and our evolutionary history, humans are herbivores who are not well suited to eating meat.
Unlike natural carnivores, we are physically and psychologically unable to rip animals limb from limb and eat and digest their raw flesh. Even cooked meat is likely to cause human beings, but not natural carnivores, to suffer from food poisoning, heart disease, and other ailments.
People who pride themselves on being part of the human hunter tradition should take a second look at the story of human evolution. Prehistoric evidence indicates that humans developed hunting skills relatively recently and that most of our short, meat-eating past was spent scavenging and eating almost anything in order to survive; even then, meat was a tiny part of our caloric intake.
Humans lack both the physical characteristics of carnivores and the instinct that drives them to kill animals and devour their raw carcasses. Ask yourself: When you see dead animals on the side of the road, are you tempted to stop for a snack? Does the sight of a dead bird make you salivate? Do you daydream about killing cows with your bare hands and eating them raw? If you answered "no" to all of these questions, congratulations—you're a normal human herbivore—like it or not. Humans were simply not designed to eat meat."
That's obviously silly. Human beings are neither strict carnivores nor herbivores. We are omnivores, having both canine teeth for ripping and molars for grinding. To pretend we are herbivores is stupid and misleading. Also, not all carnivores scavange, so seeing a dead animal on the side of the road wouldn't make a cheetah salivate either - that doesn't make it a herbivore though.[/img] _________________ We have reached the inexplicable.

They should be planning something...all the hormones injected into them just so their udders can swell up and get infected, be killed by 6 cos they can't give any more milk (when they used to until they were 20)...and have their babies tied up by the neck so they can't move ever. I would be miffy too. See now I would agree with all of that Cassie, although I do eat meat. Filling animals full of drugs/hormones and torturing them isn't needed. And I don't think most smaller family farms tend to do those types of things anyway. It's the big corporate farms that do it (not to say that no small farmers do it, but you know what I mean). _________________ We have reached the inexplicable.

Yeah it was really eye opening finding out just how much big corporations will screw over the animals, environment, and our health to make a profit. I actually agree with PETA's statement somewhat. Meat (specifically pork and beef) tends to clog up arteries and intestines causing major health problems and sometimes death. You can also get protein from other sources.
While PETA does promote vegetarianism, I don't see them bombing Burger Kings. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/dreamintheinsane

I've always wanted to be a vegetarian but I guess I became disillusioned when I saw a video on the environment which said farmers killed thousands of animals every year due to crop rotation. I know it's not as much as they do cows but it all comes down to killing animals. I guess I figured I'd be part of the cause either way so... _________________ I hate all things generic

Prehistoric evidence indicates that humans developed hunting skills relatively recently and that most of our short, meat-eating past was spent scavenging and eating almost anything in order to survive; even then, meat was a tiny part of our caloric intake. |
Without that bit of meat every now and again, our ancestors wouldn't have been able to aquire all the stuff-n-goodness, which is only found in meats, which allowed our brains to further evolve into who we are now. We "developed hunting skills relatively recently" because we weren't...er... 'highly evolved' enough to hunt yet, but with vital nutrients found in meat now in our diets, we soon were.
So their statement is pretty let's-dig-our-own-graves-ish. Where'd they get their 'prehistoric evidence' from? I got mine from Walking With Cavemen!!! YEAH! (Or was it Walking With Beasts?) uh-huh! ( ) |
